We were all caught unawares when the Pandemic struck in 2020. While a Pandemic has been talked about and expected for many years, when it struck, we were all left scrambling. We all witnessed the devastating effect it had on our elderly and staff in residential care. 

While New Zealand has got off relatively lightly so far there is no room for complacency.  We must be prepared in the event of any future Pandemics?

This day will:

  • Explore approaches that were effective in minimizing impact of transmission is rest homes and hospitals
  • Discuss Issues with personnel PPE and what PPE really meant in relations to transmission
  • Understand how the body’s owns defence mechanism can fight infection if given a chance (bacterial and viral) and how its protective mechanism works with diseases like cancer, auto-immune disease and chronic illness
  • How the world is coping with emerging infectious diseases and how nurses can prepare for emerging infectious diseases
  • What did we learn from the recent Covid-19 outbreak?
